How to get to Luwuk Banggai – from Jakarta, Bali etc

Where the hell is Pride?

This question often arises among friends who want to come to Luwuk Banggai but are still not familiar with the island of Sulawesi, especially the Luwuk Banggai area. Likewise with me as a Solo Traveler who at that time had never set foot in Luwuk Banggai. Before I give navigation to travel to Luwuk Banggai, please note in advance that Luwuk Banggai is not just one island or one city, but consists of several areas with different administrations.

Here is the location and Administration:
1. Luwuk

Luwuk is the capital of Banggai regency, Central Sulawesi province. This city is the economic and Transportation Center in the Banggai area, with Syukuran Aminuddin Amir Airport as the main gateway. Luwuk also has a port that is the main access to Banggai Islands and Banggai Laut.

2. Banggai Islands

Banggai Kepulauan is a district consisting of small islands, the capital city of which is Salakan. The district is famous for its exotic marine tourism, including unspoiled coral reefs and the endemic Banggai Cardinalfish population.

3. The Pride Of The Sea

Banggai Laut is a district that separated from Banggai Kepulauan in 2014. The capital is Banggai. The district includes numerous islands with beautiful landscapes and rich marine ecosystems, which today make it an attractive destination for divers and nature lovers.

How to get to Luwuk, Banggai Islands and Banggai Laut?

  1. From Jakarta / Makassar/Bali / other cities to Luwuk
    • By plane:
      take a direct flight or transit from Jakarta / Makassar to Syukuran Aminuddin Amir Airport, Luwuk. Airlines such as Lion Air and Wings Air usually serve this route.
    • Using a boat: usually, the journey from Gorontalo will get off at Pagimana Port, Luwuk. This port is about 1 hour drive by motorcycle or car to get to Luwuk City. So, after arriving at the Port ofPagimana, the journey must continue for about 1 hour to Luwuk City.
    • Using land vehicles: road trips from Makassar, Palu, Toraja, Poso-Tentena, Ampana, or Morowali all aim at Luwuk City (stopping point in Luwuk City). From these cities, the trip can be taken by private car, bus (check whether there is a direct route or must transit), or motorcycle if ready to travel far.
    • Tourist destinations in Luwuk: Cup waterfall, Salodik waterfall, Kamumu waterfall, and Mokokawa waterfall.
  2. From Luwuk to Banggai Islands
    • From Luwuk Port, continue to take a fast boat or wooden ship from the people’s port to Salakan.
    • Ticket price: IDR 75,000 per person.
    • Departure schedule: around 14.00 from Luwuk (it is recommended to check and buy tickets directly at the Luwuk people’s Port).
    • Travel time: about 3-5 hours, depending on the weather and type of ship.

  3. From Luwuk to Banggai Laut Island
    • From Luwuk Port, continue to take a fast boat or wooden ship from the people’s port to Banggai Laut.
    • Ticket price: IDR 75,000-IDR 100,000 per person.
    • Departure schedule: it is recommended to check directly to the people’s Port of Luwuk City.
    • Travel time: about 4-5 hours, depending on the weather and type of ship.
    • Destinasi wisata Banggai Laut: Bontolan Beach, Oyama Beach, Tanjung Gundul, Teluk Lalong, Kelapa Lima Beach.
